Hi do you want to read interesting things that are NOT despair oriented? Same

Some things I’ve liked reading the past month or so. I think sports and food writers are some of the best writers around right now and it is fun to learn from them. And I love reading about math and physics things even if I probably absorb such a small fraction of the actual science involved. And I love reading about homes - I must spent most of my day with a tab of Apartment Therapy open. Anyway, this isn’t a fancy newsletter missive, but I do hope you’ll find these stories entertaining! I’m writing the next newsletter about grief and militancy. ^_~ Here’s my mood:

Anyway, here’s what’s open in my tabs right now:

  • When the Jewish Bakers of Boyle Heights were Radical Socialists Instead of Trump Supporters

  • Mayukh’s amazing piece on Benihana, but also, literally anything Mayukh writes is good, and Mayukh is a prince who deserves everything good in the world.

  • The White Lies of Craft Culture

  • The Peculiar Math That Could Underlie the Laws of Nature. This bonkers piece is on physicist and ultra-babe Cohl Furey, who is basically solving the mathematical foundations of….nature??? We stan.

  • How an Ex-Cop Rigged McDonald’s Monopoly Game and Stole Millions

  • The Story Behind the Chicago Newspaper That Bought a Bar

  • Nora Ephron’s Apartment: A Love Story

Beauty related:

  • ‘Natural’ beauty products are on the rise because we’re scared of chemicals

  • Common Cyborg - this piece on Granta is really beautiful

  • All Politics is Olfactory
