I loveeee this post Arabelle!! Been trying to get through TWOOO non fiction books that are super interesting but I find myself turning the page and then forgetting what I’ve just read 😂 so I end up rereading a lot. I love the phrase of being a “polite reader” lol x
Connecting what I'm reading helps me retain information. I read this while sitting in my sister's cardboard box smelling living room. She just moved apartments and I'm visiting from out of town. The smell and the image of the chaos of unpacking is going to keep this piece in mind for a while.
the toni morrison quote is soooo good... and thank you for the insight, beautifully written as always!!! i've been stuck on books and have felt overwhelmed by the pressure to finish them one at a time but i think the idea of rotating them is going to help me get back into reading voraciously!
loved this post!! i bounce around books all the time and struggle to feel like i'm not failing, but will look at my habits in a new light after reading this
this is awesome!! i’ve started summarising chapters of books i’ve read and a few thoughts i have on them while reading non-fiction books, it’s been really useful and i’ve definitely found it’s allowed me to remember and link to other experiences with more ease like you said in this post! just DO, don’t focus on perfectionism too much🙌

Greenwich Letterpress's sticker wall for stationary and The Moon List substack for journaling prompts!
This is lovely and helpful, and I’m glad to see that someone else takes the same “channel surfing” approach as me!

It’s such a treasure to stumble upon the marginalia left by a previous reader. How delightful to have found a serial note leaver!
